The NHL brand was officially created on June 10, 1971 by two Californians, Dennis Murphy and Gary Davidson, and although it was not taken seriously by NHL officials, the World Association revolutionized the world of professional field hockey.

The National Hockey League is a North American professional sports association that brings together ice hockey franchises in North America. The NHL holds an annual ice hockey competition between its various franchises, of which there are 31 as of the 2017-2018 season. The competition is broken down into two parts: a regular season from October to April and then playoffs between April and June.
